Shocking Moment FrontRunner Train Crashes into Stranded SUV

A newly released video captures the moment a UTA FrontRunner train crashed into an SUV that had become stranded on the tracks in Layton, Utah, on 4th February 2025.

The incident occurred at the 1000 S. Angel Street crossing when the SUV was rear-ended, forcing it onto the railway tracks. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape just moments before the train struck the vehicle.

No injuries were reported, but the crash caused over $100,000 worth of damage to the train. The safety arm and the SUV were completely destroyed in the impact. Layton City assisted in repairing the crossing’s infrastructure, ensuring the post was restored within 24 hours.

Gavin Gustafson, Senior Public Information Officer for the Utah Transit Authority, stressed the importance of safety at railway crossings. He urged drivers to pay close attention to warning signals and advised that if they ever find themselves stuck on the tracks, they should drive through the safety arm if necessary—stating that personal safety is far more important than any barrier.
