Floyd Mayweather’s £2K Tip Withheld from Selfridges Guards
Boxing legend Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is known for his extravagant lifestyle and generous tipping habits. However, his recent goodwill gesture at Selfridges has sparked controversy, as security guards claim they were denied a £2,000 tip Mayweather left for them.
During one of his frequent shopping sprees at the luxury London department store, Mayweather reportedly spent around £200,000. As part of his lavish visit, he tipped personal shoppers £3,000 each and also set aside £2,000 for the security guards who assisted him.
However, despite Mayweather’s intention, the store’s management intervened and informed the security team that they would not receive the gratuity. Instead, they were told that the money would be donated to charity. This decision frustrated the guards, who are employed by an external security firm rather than Selfridges itself.
The situation escalated when the security staff requested proof of the donation, only to have their inquiries ignored. With no receipts or verification provided, the guards have grown increasingly frustrated, feeling they were unfairly denied Mayweather’s generous gift.
Mayweather, who is well-known for his flashy spending habits and philanthropy, may not even be aware that the tip he left for the security guards never reached them. While his personal shoppers were allowed to keep their gratuities, the security team feels unfairly treated by the decision to redirect their tip without consultation or transparency.
This incident has ignited discussions about tipping policies and ethical concerns regarding employers redirecting gratuities intended for staff. While donating to charity is commendable, the lack of transparency in this case has left many questioning the fairness of Selfridges’ decision.
As of now, neither Selfridges nor Floyd Mayweather has publicly commented on the matter. The security guards remain hopeful that their grievances will be addressed and that they will receive either their rightful tip or clear proof of the charity donation.
