Chris Brown Charged with GBH Over Alleged London Club Attack
Chris Brown has been charged with grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent in the UK following a violent nightclub incident in London. The 36-year-old R&B singer was arrested in Manchester in the early hours of May 15, 2025, in connection with an alleged attack that took place on February 19, 2023, at Tape nightclub in Mayfair.
The incident involved music producer Abe Diaw, who claims Brown struck him repeatedly on the head with a Don Julio 1942 tequila bottle before continuing to punch and kick him while he lay unconscious. Diaw reportedly suffered serious injuries requiring hospital treatment and ongoing physical support, including the use of walking aids.
Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police, Brown was arrested under section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861, which addresses intentional grievous bodily harm. Authorities tracked him to The Lowry Hotel in Manchester, where he was taken into custody without incident.
In addition to the criminal charges, Diaw filed a civil lawsuit in October 2023, seeking $16 million in damages for the assault.
The arrest casts uncertainty over Brown’s upcoming “Breezy Bowl XX Tour,” which was set to begin on June 8 in Amsterdam and includes several UK dates. Promoters and fans are now awaiting further updates on whether the tour will proceed as scheduled.
Brown’s legal troubles have been widely documented over the years. He was convicted in 2009 for the assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna and later faced a restraining order from ex-girlfriend Karrueche Tran in 2017.
Brown is scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on May 16, where he will face the formal charges. The case is expected to draw significant media attention, especially given his long history of legal issues and public scrutiny.
