Dashcam Captures Semi-Truck Dangling Over River After Crash

Dramatic dashcam footage has captured the moment a semi-truck driver was left hanging over the Ohio River.

Sydney Thomas, 26, was driving over the Clark Memorial Bridge in March when a pickup truck crashed into her, causing her truck to veer off the bridge.

The footage, shown in court on Wednesday, reveals the pickup truck, driven by Trevor Branham, 33, swerving out of its lane to avoid a stalled car, then colliding with Thomas’s truck. Thomas, in a desperate attempt to avoid other vehicles, ended up crashing through the bridge railing, leaving her truck suspended above the Ohio River.

Thomas spent about half an hour in the cab of her 18-wheeler, dangling from the nearly 100-year-old bridge that connects Louisville with Southern Indiana. Following the incident, Branham was charged with four counts of wanton endangerment and one count of operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Witnesses reported that Branham was speeding and weaving through traffic when he struck the stalled vehicle. According to the arrest report, Branham then crossed into oncoming lanes, hit another car carrying two people, and finally collided with Thomas’s semi-truck.

In court, Assistant County Attorney Liem Sokhon presented the footage as evidence against Branham. He stated, “This is the result, manifesting extreme indifference to human life, that could result in serious physical injury or death,” as reported by WHAS11.

As Thomas hung over the river, police moved in to arrest Branham, who was already facing charges for driving with a suspended license in Indiana. Branham’s attorney, Scott Barton, argued for lesser charges, citing the lack of serious injuries or fatalities.

Despite this, the judge decided to maintain Branham’s bond at $20,000. The case will be reviewed by a grand jury next month.
