Nigerian Woman Gives Birth to Sextuplets After 7 Years
A Nigerian couple is celebrating the incredible birth of sextuplets — six healthy babies — after waiting seven years to conceive.
According to BBC Pidgin, Mrs. Ajayi, who lives in Abuja, gave birth to four boys and two girls at the National Hospital Abuja. The rare delivery has captured national attention and brought joy to her family, who had long prayed for children.
Mrs. Ajayi and her husband faced years of waiting, medical challenges, and community pressure before finally welcoming their miracle babies. Speaking to reporters, she shared her emotional journey and how faith kept her strong during the difficult years of infertility.
“This na answer to our prayers,” Mrs. Ajayi said in Pidgin English. She described how excited and overwhelmed she felt when the doctor told her she was carrying six babies during her pregnancy scan.
Hospital staff at the National Hospital Abuja say all six babies and their mother are healthy and receiving special care. Delivering sextuplets requires intensive medical support, but doctors say the delivery was successful thanks to careful planning and teamwork.
Dr. Omini Onoh, the hospital’s Chief Medical Director, praised the medical team and noted how rare it is to deliver sextuplets safely. “This na very big miracle,” he said. “Na only few cases like this we dey see.”
Photos of the babies wrapped in blankets and resting beside their mother have gone viral on social media, with people across Nigeria congratulating the couple and the hospital for the safe delivery.
Family and friends have gathered at the hospital to show support and help care for the newborns. Many online have also called for government and community support to help the family, as raising sextuplets will require significant resources.
For now, the Ajayi family says they are simply grateful. “After seven years of waiting, God answer our prayers,” Mrs. Ajayi said. “We believe say He go provide everything we need to raise them well.”
