Micheal Ward Charged with Rape & Sexual Assault – Top Boy Actor

Michael Ward, the 27-year-old BAFTA-winning actor best known for Top Boy, has been formally charged with sexual offenses by the Metropolitan Police. The allegations involve one woman and date back to January 2023. He faces two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault, including assault by penetration, according to official sources.

Ward, who hails from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, was charged after the Crown Prosecution Service authorised pursuing prosecution following a review of evidence. The CPS highlighted that Ward’s legal rights to a fair trial must be respected and cautioned against commentary that could prejudice proceedings.

Authorities say Detective Superintendent Scott Ware and his team are continuing to support the woman who came forward and emphasised the impact that such investigations can have on victims. Ward is expected to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court in east London on 28 August 2025.

Born in Jamaica and raised in the UK, Ward rose to prominence with roles in Brotherhood and Top Boy, playing Jamie in the Netflix series revival from 2019 to 2022. He also has film credits in Blue Story, Empire of Light, and the upcoming feature Eddington. A BAFTA Rising Star Award winner in 2020, he’s been celebrated for his performances in Small Axeand other high-profile projects.

As this is an active legal matter, media guidelines stress that reporting must avoid publishing material that risks prejudicing future tribunal or court proceedings. Ward is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
