Hudson River Helicopter Crash Kills Family of Five

A devastating helicopter crash over New York City’s Hudson River on April 10, 2025, claimed the lives of all six people on board, including a Spanish family of five and their pilot. The victims were identified as Agustín Escobar, a senior executive at Siemens Mobility, his wife Mercè Camprubí Montal, a marketing manager at Siemens Energy, and their three children, aged 4, 8, and 10. The 36-year-old pilot, whose identity has not yet been officially released, also tragically lost his life.

The helicopter, a Bell 206L-4 LongRanger IV operated by New York Helicopters, took off from the Downtown Manhattan Heliport at approximately 2:59 p.m. Just 18 minutes into the flight, witnesses reported hearing loud noises and saw parts of the aircraft break apart mid-air before it plunged into the Hudson River near Pier 40 in Manhattan.

Emergency response teams, including NYPD and FDNY units, rushed to the scene. Despite their rapid efforts, four of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while two others were transported to the hospital but later succumbed to their injuries.

Early investigations by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) suggest a catastrophic mechanical failure, with preliminary reports indicating the tail rotor and one of the blades detached mid-flight. Weather conditions were reported as overcast but with good visibility and moderate winds at the time of the crash.

The family, originally from Spain, had previously lived in New York and were visiting the city at the time of the accident. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and New York City Mayor Eric Adams have both expressed their condolences to the victims’ families.

This tragic incident marks one of the deadliest helicopter crashes in New York City since 2018. Authorities continue to investigate the cause, as the city and international community mourn the loss.
