Haribo Recalls Gummies Over Cannabis Traces

Haribo, the iconic German candy manufacturer, has issued a major product recall in the Netherlands after traces of cannabis were found in its popular Happy Cola F!ZZ gummies. The recall was initiated following reports that several people, including children, felt unwell after consuming the sweets.

The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) confirmed that at least three packages of the gummies tested positive for cannabis. The affected products are one-kilogram bags marked with a best-before date of January 2026. Haribo is urging customers not to consume the gummies and is offering full refunds for returned products.

The company stressed that the contamination appears to be limited to a single batch distributed only in the Netherlands. Haribo emphasized that no other European countries are affected and that their international supply chain remains secure.

In cooperation with local police, Haribo has launched an investigation into how the contamination occurred. While no definitive conclusions have been reached, one line of inquiry is the possibility that counterfeit products may have infiltrated the market.

This incident has reignited concerns about the growing issue of cannabis-laced sweets in Europe. Authorities have previously warned that such products, especially those resembling well-known brands, pose a risk to public health — particularly for children who may consume them unknowingly.

The NVWA is continuing to monitor the situation closely, and Haribo is working with retailers to ensure the affected batch is swiftly removed from shelves.

For now, consumers outside the Netherlands are not impacted by this recall. However, food safety agencies across Europe are advising the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious products.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of rigorous quality control and the risks posed by counterfeit or tampered goods in the global food market.
