FATHER OF 6 JAILED FOR INTENTIONAL COLLISION

A father of six, Omar Shazad, has been sentenced to jail for deliberately driving into two children in Nottingham following reports of a gang assaulting his daughter. Judge Steven Coupland, upon reviewing the evidence, concluded that the 41-year-old had intended to strike the children, who were observed fleeing the scene after being hit by Shazad’s vehicle.

After the incident, Shazad, who worked as a delivery driver, continued to pursue the group. Judge Coupland, in delivering the one-year sentence, admonished Shazad for his actions, stating, “While I understand you were upset and angry after learning of the attack on your daughter, it was unacceptable to pursue the group in a car and deliberately target the children.”

Having reviewed the video footage Judge Coupland emphasized that Shazad’s actions were intentional

and not the result of erratic driving or distraction. He noted Shazad’s lack of immediate remorse, as evidenced by his decision to resume chasing the group after the collision. Expressing concern over Shazad’s lack of remorse, Judge Coupland described the incident as a dangerous act of anger that could have resulted in serious harm to the children involved.

During the trial at Nottingham Crown Court, it was revealed that Shazad had driven his car into the group on Wycliffe Street, New Basford, on July 12 of the previous year. His actions were prompted by reports from one of his daughters that she had been assaulted and was bleeding.

“I feel scared all the time, I did not see the car coming because it came from behind me and because of this I feel angry because there was nothing I could (to avoid being struck),” one of the children impacted by the incident expressed.

Luc Chignell, representing Shazad, explained that his client has six children, four of whom live with him and his wife and are aged nine to 17. He stated, “He did not do this out of any great plan or desire but because he saw red.” Judge Coupland also banned Shazad from driving for 17 months, alongside the jail term.
